Manual drive

Corresponding components: Origin platform

Warning

Make sure that the robot is unplugged from its charger

Warning

The Origin One platform does not support collision avoidance out of the box. Please consult drive controller documentation

After the robot completely finished the starting-up procedure, turn on the remote controller. At first the light on the back of the remote controller will start blinking white, indicating that it is searching for a connection, which will turn into a constant blue light once the remote controller is connected to the robot. In case it will not connect, then you may want to check the battery state of the remote controller, or you might be too far away from the robot (exceeding 20 meters, or less when the battery of the remote controller is not fully charged).

Info

Please consult the controller range notes before driving.

The robot has several modes in which it can be controlled, i.e., control modes. These are RELEASED, MANUAL, AUTONOMOUS and USER. The robot will always start up in a RELEASED state, indicating that it accepts a switch to any other control mode. In order to switch to MANUAL, you need to press the "O" button on the remote controller. After that, the robot will follow any control signals you apply on the joysticks of the remote controller:

  • By default, the left joystick is used for forward and backward driving and the right joystick is used for turning
  • By clicking on the right joystick you will trigger a mode where turning, forward and backwards driving is all combined on the right joystick. Another click will return to the default mode.
  • When keeping the "L2" button pressed the maximum speed of the robot is increased from 1 m/s to 1.4 m/s and its maximum turning speed is also increased.

You can switch to control mode of RELEASED by pressing on the "X" button of the remote controller, so that any other entity (Autopilot or user-code) may request control of the robot.
