Setup for operation

This guide provides a step-by-step instruction to set up and start using the Avular Stellar Base Station for high-precision GNSS positioning. An RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) base station works by receiving GNSS signals and calculating its precise position over time. The longer the base station remains stationary and measures its position, the more accurate its calculated position becomes. This process is known as survey-in. During the survey-in process, the base station collects GNSS data to determine its exact location.

Placement

Good placement of the equipment is required for optimal reception and performance. Place the base station in an open environment. The base station needs to have a clear sky view 30 degrees above the horizon. There should be no obstacles that could block the view like buildings, trees, cars, humans, etc.

Tripod

Use the following steps to place the tripod.

  • Extend the tripod legs to a comfortable working height.
  • Ensure the legs are spread evenly for maximum stability.
  • Press the tripod feet firmly into the ground.
  • Position the tripod approximately level by adjusting the leg extensions. Note fine adjustments can later be made using the Tribrach.

⚠️ Caution: Ensure the tripod is placed firmly and securely on the ground, failing to do so may result in the setup becoming unstable and topple over, potentially causing serious damage to the equipment or cause personal injury.

Tribrach

  1. Mount the Tribrach
  2. Place the tribrach onto the tripod head
  3. Secure it by tightening the central fixing screw
  4. Verify the tribrach is firmly attached to the tripod

  5. Level the Tribrach

  6. Use the three leveling screws on the tribrach for precise leveling
  7. Adjust the screws while watching the circular bubble level

  8. Installation of the upper piece

  9. Place the top part of the Tribrach onto the bottom part of the Tribrach, take into account the alignment piece which has to align up with the Tribrach alignment groove.
  10. Tighten the tribrach fixing lever firmly by turning clockwise.

Use of the Optical plummet telescope\ The optical plummet telescope can be used to re-position the tripod onto a previously used position or survey marker. To use the Optical plummet, first level the Tripod using the steps above, then re-position the tripod such that the crosshair of the optical plummet is centered on the survey marker.

⚠️ Warning Risk of eye injury or blindness, do not look at the sun through the telescope.\ ⚠️ Warning Ensure that you mount the Tribrach correctly, failing to do so may result in injury if the tribrach were to fall over.

Configure the Reach RS2+ for operation

The Reach RS2+ can be configured using Average SINGLE setup where the position will be determined through averaging over time. Alternatively, a Manual mode can be used when the base station is positioned exactly onto a previously used point or surveying marker. Average SINGLE setup

  1. Connect to the base.
  2. On the Receivers screen, tap Base setting.
  3. To configure base settings, tap the Configure button.
  4. Select Average SINGLE as the base coordinates entry method and set averaging time. Tap Save.

⚠️ Caution: Do not move the base while Reach is accumulating data.

Note: Base position is averaged automatically every time the receiver turns on.

After accumulating the data, you will see averaged coordinates in the Base marker section. Now your base is set up and transmits corrections data to the Vertex or Origin.

Stellar Radio Module

The Radio Module is pre-configured to work with Avular's Vertex One and Origin platforms. No additional configuration of the radio module itself is required.
