Functions of Sticks & buttons

The Herelink remote controller has two sticks, seven buttons, and one wheel. The sticks are used to control the drone's movement. The buttons and scroll wheel are used to control the drone's flight modes and other functions.

Stick/button Function Description
Left stick Drone movement controls Controls the drone movement based on the flight mode or arm/kill the drone
Right stick Drone movement controls Controls the drone movement based on the flight mode or arm the drone
A button Take-off or landing Press to trigger a take-off or landing
B button Change flight mode Press to toggle between manual/position/auto flight mode
Power button Power remote (screen) on/off Single press to lock/unlock the screen.
Hold to power the remote on/off
Home button Kill switch In emergencies, to kill the motors immediately, see here for more info

D button Reserved Currently not in use. Can be used for custom actions using the Avular programming interface
Trigger button Reserved Currently not in use. Can be used for custom actions using the Avular programming interface
Wheel Reserved Currently not in use. Can be used for custom actions using the Avular programming interface

The sticks are spring-loaded and return to the center position when released.

Powering On/Off

Power on the remote by pressing and holding the power button on the remote for 2 seconds. The Herelink remote runs on Android, and the app to view the drone's telemetry information is Herelink-QGroundControl. This app will open automatically when the remote boots up and will automatically connect to the drone when the Vertex One is powered on. If the app does not open automatically, you can open it manually by clicking on the Herelink-QGroundControl icon on the home screen. If the remote does not automatically connect to the drone, you can pair the remote with the drone by following the instructions mentioned here.

Always power off the Vertex One before powering off the remote controller. Power off the remote controller by holding the power button and selecting "Power Off".

Arming and Disarming the Vertex One

The Vertex One can be armed or disarmed by pushing the joysticks both down and inwards. Disarming can not be used in-flight, use the killswitch if required instead.

Change Flight Mode

The flight mode can be changed by pressing the B button. The flight mode can be toggled between manual, position, and automatic flight modes. The current flight mode is displayed on the screen. For more information on the different flight modes, see here.

Kill-Switch

Warning

The execution of this command and any potential consequences are the legal responsibility of the drone pilot.

Warning

Kill-switch command is reserved for exceptional (emergency) flight scenarios. The pilot is responsible to assess the effect of further flight of the drone and decide on executing the kill-switch command if this continued flight of the drone was projected to cause more severe consequences, than the drone stopping its motors and falling to the ground.

Warning

Executing the kill-switch command while in normal (controlled) flight of the drone will stop the motors and cause the drone to fall to the ground uncontrollably with potentially unwanted consequences. To avoid such situation, pay appropriate attention to not execute this command accidentally when piloting the drone.

In emergencies, to kill the motors immediately, hold the home button pressed while moving the left stick to the down and inward position. This means that while holding the home button pressed the Vertex will not respond to changing altitude and yaw commands to prevent the Vertex decreasing altitude while initiating the kill switch.

Remote Controller Power and Charging

Warning

Make sure the remote controller is always appropriately charged before the start of a flight. If the remote controller battery level gets too low, this might cause a shutdown of the controller and lose the remote control ability to the drone; this results in an emergency landing of Vertex One.

The remote controller is powered by an internal Li-Ion battery.

Note

Familiarize yourself with safety recommendations connected to the operation of Li-Ion batteries stated in this manual as well as other respective user manuals.
